Hey there punkin!
We love Halloween!
Just take a square of orange fabric and hot glue some ruffles around the edge, add a little rick rack to cover your glue line and you have a table runner that's so cute it's SCARY!!!!!!
Work in progress...
I absolutely LOVE this table, I am going to attempt to grey wash it! Wish me luck...to be continued...
Quick Fix
Do you have a piece of furniture that just doesn't pop? This is mine. I have had this cute little table for a while now and it has always just kind of blended in with my old wood floor, blah... so I gave it a quick makeover!
All I did was slap on some silver metallic spray paint and it made a HUGE difference! And the silver color made Halloween decorating even funner!
DIY Crow Rug!
This project is so super easy even I could do it! Ha! I was looking through a Halloween magazine and saw this crow rug for sale for about $30 bucks (which really isn't that bad of a price) but I knew I could make it for cheaper...so I did. I found this plain outdoor rug at Walmart for $5 bucks!
I borrowed my ma's vinyl cutter and made a crow stencil ( if you don't have access to a vinyl cutter you could print and cut out a crow from paper and use that)! Then you just use a sponge brush to apply paint to the rug.
What a cute little helper!
And this is the finished project! What do you think?
DIY Sheet Rock Mud Stencil
Once again the great people at Studio 5 have given us another Fun challenge! They have sent us and 4 other contributors the same packet of Martha Stewart stencils to see what projects we each can come up with! So after going over many ideas, we finally decided on our favorite! Sheetrock mud…Yes Sheetrock mud!
This is SO super EASY, anyone can do it! What you need is:
- A frame ( any size will do )
- A background ( we used wood panels, but you could use anything from metal to scrapbook paper or wallpaper )
- Sheet rock mud and a small trowel ( you can find this at any hardware store )
- Painters tape
- Stencil
What we did is we took our frame and spray painted it a metallic gold, then we measured the inside of the frame and cut the wood panels to fit!
Then you just place your stencil down where you would like and secure it in place with painters tape!
Then just scoop up some mud and smooth it over your stencil being careful not to press or work it in too much or it will bleed.
Then slowly pull your stencil off right after applying the mud…
And VOILA! It’s really that simple, and in the end you have a one of a kind piece of art!
Topiaries
Mama bear made her own cute topiaries! She got tie wire and some needle nose pliers and made circles, then overlapped them and put them in a pot. Stacked books make levels, and yes another upcycled lamp! ( that one never gets old!) On our way to Studio 5! Watch our segment on channel 5 at 11:00 today! Or..... You can check out there website! Spruce up that Bed Room with these FAST FUN Tricks!
These long winter months can give you the decorating blues and blahs! After the CRAZINESS of the holidays its time to treat yourself to a fresh new space! So where is a good place to start? ChiKKaBoom has your answer! Its time to redo that MASTER BEDROOM! Here are a few tips and how to’s to get you started!
1 - SAVE money by using a NEUTRAL BEDSPREAD:
- Bedding can get VERY expensive, so try to stick with NEUTRAL COLORS (Grey-cream-brown-black).
Add punches of color and texture with PILLOWS, BLANKETS, or even a strip of fabric!
I sleep with a TON of pillows! So when I make my bed I’m always trying to find places to stuff them out of sight, so I came up with a solution! I call it The PILLOW RUNNER!
2 – SIDE TABLES:
- PAINT is the quickest, cheapest way to change your side tables!
- A BRIGHT VIBRANT accent color can change the entire feel of your room!
- Of course painting your dresser can make a big difference too, but if you still like the existing color try adding a glaze to change it up a bit!
- DON’T THROW OUT YOUR OLD HARDWARE!!! You can change this too! We just took our old handles and fastened them to a cardboard box, spray painted them and VOILA! It gives it a pumped up Shabby Chic look!
- From Modern to Classic styles, accessories like BOOKS and LAMPS show off your personal style!
Tissue paper gave new life to these LOVELY LAMPS!
Shimmery paint! (is that a word?)

Ruffles For Christmas!
The Ruffle Tree Skirt
I needed a new tree skirt this year, so after searching to the ends of the earth I realized that there is absolutely NOTHING out there that I liked! So I made my own what do you think?
I very much wish that I could take full credit for this idea, but I actually was inspired by a similar skirt I saw on Pinterest, so this is our version!
I started out with 1 1/2 yards of a heavy muslin fabric (this helps the skirt lay well). I folded the fabric in on itself like you would to make a snowflake.
Then I measured from the base of my tree to the outer edge of the branches (mine was about 22 inches), then I set my measuring tape down on the inside corner of my fabric and traced a line with a pen.
Then I just cut along my traced line and cut the tip off to make a hole for your base. After you've done this you should have an almost perfect circle when you unfold it!
Now your ready for your main fabric! I ended up using almost 4 yards of fabric! Then just cut your fabric in long strips, I did mine about 4 inches thick and I totally eyeballed it! Why stress yourself out with being precise?!
Then you take your handy dandy glue gun and starting on the outer edge of your circle make a line of glue about 5 inches long and start pinching and pressing your fabric strip into it. It feels awkward at first but once you get the hang of it it goes pretty fast! Then just continue along your edge till you get to the end and start a new layer about 2 inches above your first!
After you have burned your fingers off and said a few choice words you will have a FABULOUS tree skirt to show off this holiday season!!!
The Ruffle Table Runner
So to take the ruffles one step further my cute mama came up with another way to bring out your inner Ruffle Diva! The Ruffle Table Runner! YAY!
Oh yes my friends this is FABULOUS!!!! Once again mom you have outdone yourself! I hope one day you pass on your magical powers of decor onto me! So believe it or not this is actually easier to make than the tree skirt! She just used the same technique I just showed you, but glued it to an old table runner!
She used all different fabric prints which I LOVE! Then she just Folded the edges over and glued them to give it a more finished look!
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!! What do you think? Really let us know, we LOVE hearing from you all!!!!!
Here are a few others we threw together for you!
P.S. A little trick to ensure that you dont burn your fingers off, gardening gloves work great when you are using hot glue!
