Books on books on books

Books are one of my very favorite decorating accessories. You can never ever have too many cute books. When I go to the thrift store and buy all of these books, people look at me like I am a very intelligent smart girl. Little do they know, I'm only buying them to stack neatly in my home. Hehe

For this look, I ripped out different pages in different sizes. I rolled up about five pages at a time and tied them with some scrap fabric I had.

Need more closet space? Drink a coke...yep! :)

So who couldn't use more closet space? Maybe Kim Kardashian...no I bet even she needs more!

So here is a SIMPLE solution:

Drink a Coke

Your welcome...now keep the tabs from your cokes!

So all you need to do to double your closet space is simply place one hole of the tab on one hanger, then hook your second hanger on the other hoop!

And depending on how high your hanging rod is you could do this a third or even fourth time! But then you'd have to buy more clothes to fill up all that space you just made...dang.

Now you see it, Now you don't!

If there is any object that can throw off a rooms decor it's the GIANT printer/scanner!!! Now a days you can purchase a wireless printer stick it in a closet and call it macaroni...yep...macaroni.

But for all of us that refuse to spend money on such things there is another solution!

HIDE IT!!!

So I stuck mine under my desk! I placed it on top of an old wooden box that I turned on its side to add a little more storage space, I can't get enough storage space!

To hide my lovely printer I purchased a tension rod ( you can find these pretty much anywhere and they are extremely affordable ) Then I found an extra piece of fabric I had layin around and layed it on my bar front facing down, then I placed the tension rod over it. Then all you have to do is roll the top of your fabric over the tension rod and start gluing! I used E-6000 but a hot glue gun would work fine too! Or if you are REALLY super ambitious you could always sew it, meh!

When your glue is dry just scrunch up your fabric to give it that flowy feeling, I may have made that word up) then twist your tension into place and voila! The printer is hidden!

And that is that! Pretty simple eh?

I Love This!!! Personal Libraries are a Retreat!!!

And aren't they?! Even if it is a small reading nook, dedicating any space to just sit back with a good book is definitely a retreat!

Howie Mandel...... How We Mantel!

First of all that post title is hilarious...
and...Here's a quickie Idea for your mantel! I know your all putting away you're Christmas Crap! Yes, I said crap. Go get that mantel decorated! I covered these books with book pages forever ago and I love them! You can cover any book with pages, put those old twilight books to good use. I use them for lots of decorating stuff. They are a great neutral color, and easy to add to any vignette for height. My mantel is Concrete with white oval tiles, its a keeper! I have lots of project ideas in my head for this year, I can't wait to get them going! If I can quit cleaning toilets for long enough to get anything done. Hope this New Year is full of happiness, organizing, and LOVE! -- B

Potty Talk

Ok so I have an obsession with toilet seats....that's right toilet seats! There's nothing like a nice clean smooth seat, especially after yours looks like this!

Toilet seats are surprisingly cheap especially at Walmart or on Amazon! And it's a quick and easy bathroom pick me up that ANYONE can do!
All you need is a wrench, unscrew the bolts under the back rim of the toilet and the old seat will come right off! Then your toilet will look something like this. This is an excellent time to clean the parts of your throne that you normally can't get to!

Then just secure the new seat the same way! Make sure the bolts are tight or you will start to get a wiggly toilet!

Another quick throne pick me up is the handle! Did you know that there are tons of different handles that you can change out on your toilet!!! I nabbed this cutie at Lowes!

So you don't need a handy man and lots of money to update your throne, all you need is a little elbow grease!

Cleaning 101

So I have the BEST trick to getting hard water off of your faucets...Kaboom baby!!!!

Grab yourself a sandwich bag ( and a sandwich if you're hungry) and spray some Kaboom inside ( the bag, not the sandwich) Then just secure the bag onto your faucet with a rubber band!!!

Then leave it and do something else like eat a sandwich! ( I might be a little hungry right now ).

Every fifteen minutes or so pat the bottom of the bag just to swish things around. I usually leave mine on for at least an hour, then take it off and give it a little scrub and your faucet will look better than NEW!!! And it will work better too! I do this on my shower heads and sink sprays, it works GREAT!!!

DIY Painted Stripe Pots!

Planting pots are expensive! Not to mention the cost of the plants you put in them!!!

So save your pesos and make your own cute pots! I found these plain black plastic pots at Walmart for super cheap and just painted some fun stripes on them! Nothing complicated just eyeball it!

I Will Stand

Here is a link to the song "I Will Stand".
It has been a special experience writing this song.  One I will never forget.
I hope it comes to mean as much to you as it does to me.
This link will be good for a week (until May 14th 2013).

HOME

I still love vinyl! Yes it's been through phases, haven't we all? It had its days of glass tiles, & wooden plaques. They were good days don't get me wrong! Those wooden plaques could still be used here & there, holidays maybe? Vinyl is ready to move on to more sophisticated circles..... Get creative, think geometric designs, ceilings, toilets, words you love- in bolder fonts..... That's why I love it! It's so versatile and when your ready for a new " phase " take it off & start something new. The word HOME has hit me right in my core lately. I try everyday with all my might to make my house a HOME, no I'm not always successful but when I step back & think of the lovely chaos..... Cookies burned & baked, homework done or cried through, hugs given, laughs, dirty toilets, conflicts, dinners loved & hated, movies watched & snuggled through, water ALL over the floor tub times, and the people I love most in the world under one shelter. And in our own way making it through this life Together. Hopefully raising amazing, hopeful, happy kids to go & "make" a HOME of their own. So thankful for my HOME. - Bre
