Potty Talk

Ok so I have an obsession with toilet seats....that's right toilet seats! There's nothing like a nice clean smooth seat, especially after yours looks like this!

Toilet seats are surprisingly cheap especially at Walmart or on Amazon! And it's a quick and easy bathroom pick me up that ANYONE can do!
All you need is a wrench, unscrew the bolts under the back rim of the toilet and the old seat will come right off! Then your toilet will look something like this. This is an excellent time to clean the parts of your throne that you normally can't get to!

Then just secure the new seat the same way! Make sure the bolts are tight or you will start to get a wiggly toilet!

Another quick throne pick me up is the handle! Did you know that there are tons of different handles that you can change out on your toilet!!! I nabbed this cutie at Lowes!

So you don't need a handy man and lots of money to update your throne, all you need is a little elbow grease!

Cleaning 101

So I have the BEST trick to getting hard water off of your faucets...Kaboom baby!!!!

Grab yourself a sandwich bag ( and a sandwich if you're hungry) and spray some Kaboom inside ( the bag, not the sandwich) Then just secure the bag onto your faucet with a rubber band!!!

Then leave it and do something else like eat a sandwich! ( I might be a little hungry right now ).

Every fifteen minutes or so pat the bottom of the bag just to swish things around. I usually leave mine on for at least an hour, then take it off and give it a little scrub and your faucet will look better than NEW!!! And it will work better too! I do this on my shower heads and sink sprays, it works GREAT!!!

DIY Painted Stripe Pots!

Planting pots are expensive! Not to mention the cost of the plants you put in them!!!

So save your pesos and make your own cute pots! I found these plain black plastic pots at Walmart for super cheap and just painted some fun stripes on them! Nothing complicated just eyeball it!

I Will Stand

Here is a link to the song "I Will Stand".
It has been a special experience writing this song.  One I will never forget.
I hope it comes to mean as much to you as it does to me.
This link will be good for a week (until May 14th 2013).

HOME

I still love vinyl! Yes it's been through phases, haven't we all? It had its days of glass tiles, & wooden plaques. They were good days don't get me wrong! Those wooden plaques could still be used here & there, holidays maybe? Vinyl is ready to move on to more sophisticated circles..... Get creative, think geometric designs, ceilings, toilets, words you love- in bolder fonts..... That's why I love it! It's so versatile and when your ready for a new " phase " take it off & start something new. The word HOME has hit me right in my core lately. I try everyday with all my might to make my house a HOME, no I'm not always successful but when I step back & think of the lovely chaos..... Cookies burned & baked, homework done or cried through, hugs given, laughs, dirty toilets, conflicts, dinners loved & hated, movies watched & snuggled through, water ALL over the floor tub times, and the people I love most in the world under one shelter. And in our own way making it through this life Together. Hopefully raising amazing, hopeful, happy kids to go & "make" a HOME of their own. So thankful for my HOME. - Bre

"Chalkboard"

I bought this painting from the thrift shop because I loved the frame! Then I bought a black poster board to put inside for a quick and easy chalkboard! The board itself didn't fit perfectly in the frame so I painted the edges of the painting black because im a cheater and you can't even tell! I copied a saying I saw on Pinterest. Drawing with chalk is really easier than you would think and it's kind of therapeutic haha :)

DIY Herringbone Painted Rug!

Hey Friends! I am SO EXCITED about this rug I could just pee a little (side effects of getting older)! ANYONE can make this rug, and really you could do any pattern you choose! Here is the How To for the Herringbone pattern!

So I have been looking for a cute rug for under my table FOREVER!!! And every one that I would find would end up being $500 to $1000 BUCKS!!! That's just ridiculous!!! There are PLENTY of other things I would rather spend that kind of money on (like a vacation)! So I decided to make it myself!

I found this 5 by 8 foot Beauty at Walmart for $29 bucks! By itself it wasn't very cute, but it was the perfect canvas!

So what I did is I measured the width and divided it by 2 (get out your calculators) to find the middle, then I marked it on the top and bottom with magic marker. Then I borrowed my hot hubbys chalk line (you can find these at any hardware store and they are GREAT for making straight lines!) I pinned the chalk line to my wood floor (its old) at the top marking point and then pulled the string tight to the bottom marker, once your line is tight pull up on the string with your other hand and let go! This will give you your first straight line! Its sound complicated but its really not, don't let me scare you!

Then I did the same thing measuring between the middle marker and the side of the rug, so I ended up with 3 blue lines running down the rug...are you still with me?...ok

Once you have your vertical lines you can start measuring the other way except this time don't use your chalk line (or you will be cursing me trying to wipe it off)! Instead make your marks starting in the middle with a magic marker, you basically want to end up with squares you can trace on.

Once you have finished marking your rug you will want to find something straight that you can trace with (I just used a piece of scrap wood) then start tracing a chevron pattern with magic marker.
Ok, the hard part is done!!!!! Now just paint!!!

And Paint...and paint...The time goes by a lot faster if you have a Coke and watch a good show on Hulu (I watched Community, its my guilty nap time pleasure!)

I just used black craft paint, six bottles to be exact!

And so with a little elbow grease, some paint and an ugly rug you can make something FABULOUS!!!

p.s. don't judge my unfinished chairs, that will be another project!

Bathroom Bling

Was up y'all!       Its been awhile, there's been babies born & houses built  (building is not for the weak- it was so hard! i guess you could say the same for babies born! ) so excited to show you some new projects from my house. I hung all these mirrors with 3-M products, so if later I get bored I can switch it out. I also threw in some quirky farm pictures I found, cuz I'm a country girl now- ( if you didn't know) look how in love all the animals are, it makes me smile everytime i see it! I hung this head board and had the lights trimmed right out of it, think it turned out great. Good to be back- Luvs!  - Bre
